Stain removal guides
jugaad.world is a free reference site for everyday household problems in India. Each guide gives a step-by-step method built only from published extension-service and textile sources, cites them, and says what we couldn't verify.
How to remove ballpoint ink stains from clothes
Don't wash it yet. Dab the ink with rubbing alcohol on a clean white cloth, changing to a fresh part of the cloth as it picks up ink, until no more comes out. Let it dry, repeat if needed, then launder. Washing first can set the stain.
How to remove oil stains from clothes (cooking oil and ghee)
Blot off the excess oil, cover the stain with talcum powder and brush it off, then rub liquid detergent into the dampened stain and wash in the hottest water the care label allows. Check the spot before drying the garment, and repeat once if any mark is left.
How to remove blood stains from clothes
Treat it immediately with cold water, never hot: heat sets blood. Rinse under cold running water, rub in bar soap or liquid detergent, rinse, and repeat. Then soak in cool water for 30 minutes or longer, and use an enzyme soak or 3% hydrogen peroxide if a stain remains.
How to remove haldi (turmeric) stains from clothes
Scrape off the excess, rinse, then work a light liquid detergent with a few drops of vinegar into the stain and rinse well. If a mark remains, dab on 3% hydrogen peroxide, rinse, then wash. Avoid bar soap on a fresh haldi stain: it turns red.
How to remove tea and chai stains from clothes
Rinse the stain promptly in cool water. Soak it 15 minutes in about a litre of warm water with half a teaspoon of dishwash liquid and a tablespoon of white vinegar, rinse, then wash. Use bleach only if the care label allows, and never at the same time as vinegar.
