Leave a hand's width between each item on the drying rack
Airflow between garments matters more than airflow around the rack. Fewer than five independent reports so far, so it is still unverified — try it and file one.
Why it works
Clothes hung touching each other trap a pocket of humid air between them that barely moves, so the fabric in contact stays damp far longer than the exposed side. Spacing items even a few centimetres apart lets air pass on both sides of every garment, cutting drying time and the musty smell that comes with slow drying.
