A wooden spoon across the pot stops milk boiling over
Works for the first minute or so, then stops — not something to leave unattended.
Why it works
A wooden spoon briefly cools the surface where bubbles touch it, and its porous grain helps burst them — a real effect, not a placebo. But once the spoon heats up to the liquid's own temperature, usually within the first minute, it stops cooling anything and offers no further protection.
